The Problem

A previous homeowner used waxes to shine this slate tile floor, an improper restoration method that looks beautiful at first, but over time causes some major problems. When moisture gets trapped between wax coatings and the slate surface, it forms a chalky white powdery residue, called efflorescence. This floor had it’s fair share of not only efflorescence, but dirt and grime deposits caused by regular foot traffic, as well.

The Solution

First we deep cleaned the floor using a commercial hot water extraction method to flush out and remove old, yellowed layers of wax coatings, dirt, and grime from the surface of the stone and the grout lines. The slate cleaning process prepared the floor for the final step, applying an impregnating sealer, to help ensure there would be no future problems with efflorescence. You can see in the images how beautiful the refinished slate floor looks. The colors in the stone pop, and the grout lines look clean and fresh.
