Cracks and an uneven surface called for a detailed restoration of this terrazzo foyer and hallway in Shelby Township, MI. SRS Detroit diamond-ground the flooring, repaired damaged areas with colored epoxy, and restored the terrazzo to a high shine.
Grinding and Detailed Edge Work
Our team used diamond grinding equipment with added weight to smooth the terrazzo surface. Because the floor sloped toward the walls, we worked all edges by hand, giving those areas the attention needed for a consistent finish.
Repairing a Deep Split and Additional Cracks
The largest repair involved a substantial split near the middle of the floor. We filled it with colored epoxy in several applications, sanding the repaired area between stages to bring it flush with the surrounding surface. We also repaired three additional cracks.
Polishing the Terrazzo and Refinishing the Thresholds
After grinding and repairs, we completed three crystallization applications to bring the terrazzo floor to a high polish.
The marble threshold work excluded the larger threshold between the stairs and front door. We also shimmed a displaced threshold back into position. At the customer’s request, the refinished threshold received a matte finish and was sealed.
The completed project paired glossy terrazzo flooring with repaired cracks and a neatly finished marble transition.
