SRS Detroit collaborated with Jane Henderson Interiors to resurface and protect the marble countertops in a beautifully designed home in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
The project included approximately 95 square feet of marble across the kitchen, island and laundry room. Our goal was to preserve the character of the natural stone, create a smooth high-gloss finish and provide lasting protection against two of marble’s most common problems: etching and staining.
Protecting Marble Without Compromising the Design
This striking interior combines modern cabinetry, dark hardware and a geometric stone backsplash with dramatically veined marble. Because the countertops are such an important part of the design, the protective solution needed to maintain the stone’s natural beauty while making it better suited for everyday use.
Marble is an elegant material, but it can be vulnerable to acidic foods, beverages and cleaning products. Lemon juice, wine, vinegar and similar substances can react with the stone and leave dull marks known as etching. Marble can also absorb spills and develop stains when it is not properly protected.
Marble Resurfacing and Polishing
Before applying protection, the SRS Detroit team resurfaced the honed marble to smooth the countertops and create a consistent finish.
We carefully worked across the kitchen counters, island, sink areas, edges and laundry room surfaces. Once the marble had been properly prepared, it was polished to a high shine that brought greater clarity and depth to its distinctive veining.
The polished finish complements the contemporary interior while allowing the marble to remain the visual centerpiece of the space.
Protection Backed by a Full Warranty
After preparing the stone, we applied MORE® AntiEtch® to the marble tops, a clear protective treatment selected for this specific application.
The completed marble surfaces are backed by a full warranty against etching and staining, giving the homeowner added confidence when using the kitchen and laundry room every day.
Rather than changing the design, the protection supports it. The finished countertops retain the beauty and movement of natural marble while gaining a more practical defense against common household spills.
