The Problem
Marble is a popular stone for commercial applications such as hotel lobbies because it exudes elegance and invokes a sense of strength and permanence for the establishment. The property manager of this Clarkston, MI hotel was concerned about lippage, that is, uneven tiles that were posing a trip hazard to guests and patrons. In addition, he wanted the grout joints to be flush with the marble tiles, to give the floor a more uniform, monolithic appearance.
Our Solution
First, we honed the floor with a series of diamond-encrusted pads to grind down the marble tiles until they were even with the grout lines.
